Sunflower Engagement Session: Vanessa & Adam

I've been really excited to share this with you.  If you follow my work you remember my sunflower engagement session last year with awesome Melissa and Dan which got published on Washingtonian Bride and Groom blog. If you missed it you can click HERE.  I was hesitant to try to go back, I mean how can you top that right? Well I'm sure glad I did because these pics turned out so great, and somehow totally different!

You know that when your clients met in a city kickball league you're in for a GREAT session!  I mean, seriously, how cool is that? Vanessa and Adam were SO fun, laid back and totally awesome.  We had so much fun together and they were such naturals in front of the camera they even surprised themselves!

When we were driving from the sunflower fields to another spot down the road out of the corner of my eye I saw the setting sun catching these "fuzzy things" as I kept calling them (yes honey, I was driving carefully... zip it Muriel!) and I instantly swerved off the road (very carefully and safely) and threw my keys on the ground in the dirt (I mean put them safely in a hidden location so that no one to steal our car... maybe my husband shouldn't read this post!) and ran to see what caught my eye. And boy was I happy with this little treasure on the side of the road. Love it!

Photographers have this time of day that they call "The Golden Hour". The "Golden Hour" is a period (you guessed about an hour long) where the sun is setting and casts this beautiful golden glow over everything. It's hard to capture because often buildings, trees, or other obstructions get in the way of the horizon, but when you can get a clear view of the sun dipping down onto the horizon... WOW you snap like crazy!!! We really nailed the golden hour on this shoot.

Which brings me to another point... emotion. Before I start a shoot I always tell my clients "I can bring you to a beautiful artistic setting, I can pose you in creative ways, I can expose my picture with technical excellence ... but what makes or breaks pictures really is emotion. That's your contribution. When you look at each other... really look at each other. Think about how much you love that person, how you're going to be sharing the rest of your life together... and that's what will make stunning images". Vanessa and Adam really did that and you can just see the love can't you? I love it!

Thank you Adam & Vanessa for a gorgeous and fun session. I can't wait to meet again next year for the big day!!

Hope you all enjoyed the pics and if you don't already follow us on Facebook I invite you to click the Facebook logo on the top right sidebar and follow us on Facebook for awesome photography, cool DIY projects and all kinds of creative ideas.
