Example 1: The idea
An experienced photographer knows how something seemingly mundane can make a really fabulous shot. This is one from this past year I shotExample 2 : The Sky
Sometimes the sky... well it sucks. Just dreary grey. Sometimes it's a decent sky, but in order to expose the skin tones properly, you have to over expose the sky and loose some of the color. There are different techniques to merge two exposures of the same shot, or use an imported sky, but whatever the case it a gorgeous sunset portrait is a real treasure.
Poles, lines and other distractions really can take away from a shot. A Photoshop master can remove those if need be
This is an example of working with the original sky, to bring it back and amplify it in Photoshop
(this was me shooting it! :) ) Both of these beach shots are when I shot for rockstar South Florda photographer Vincent Hogan @ http://www.thelxa.com
Example 3: Editing out distractions
This is one shot that the bride and I were walking back to the church area and I saw this little random enclave with a beautiful stone wall. It was small, and the light was rough and I didn't have enough background to see the whole frame but I sent for it hoping that I could edit out the things that bothered me. I'm really happy with how it turned out.
Similar on this beautiful portrait of Dee from earlier this year shot in her hotel room
This shot below took me FOREVER to edit out the door bc of the complexity of the pattern.
Many times you plan to take shots at times when the light is going to be most flattering. That hour or two before the sun sets... everything is golden, streaks of light fall like arrows from the sky, all around gorgeousness. We call it the golden hour. It's not uncommon however that timelines go array and we're working under quickly fading blue light. This is one of those situations below.
Example 5: Cosmetic touch ups.(I used Kim as not to offend any clients)
I think Kim looks FAB in the pic to the left. I don't think you need to be a size 4 to be beautiful and I certainly would die for some of her curves myself :) But having said that I occasionally get requests from brides, or sometimes mothers to tighten up an arm, or hide a roll etc. and I understand that sometimes clients want a little this or that smoothed out if they're going to print a canvas and have it hanging on their wall :) We are our own worst critics aren't we? I edited this one as an example
My skin is less than perfect... reason #1001 I absolutely do not like having people take my picture. I often get clients who want to have a little scarring or other issues that they appreciate being smoothed out. I'm not one to do this plastic fake Glamour Shot style face editing, I more go for keeping the clients natural, realistic beauty of the client but without the distractions.
Hope you have a WONDERFUL fantastic work week and I'll see you on the blog next Monday. If you love seeing the beautiful pics but want to see what happens behind the scenes during the week join us on!
